His Excellency, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Mohammed Al Jadaan participated, virtually, on Tuesday, 21 June 2022, in the G20's First Joint Finance and Health Ministers' Meeting, held under the Indonesian presidency. The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Finance and Health of the G20 countries, a number of representatives of invited countries and heads of international and regional organizations.
During the meeting, Al-Jadaan stressed the importance of cooperation between the Ministers of Health and Finance in mobilizing efforts to build a foundation for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response (PPR) in the future, stressing that health system resilience should remain at the core of our PPR actions, pointing out that the Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF) and G20 health and finance coordination will shape our PPR efforts for decades to come.
The G20 Health and Finance Ministers meeting started during the Japanese Presidency in 2019, continued in the Saudi Presidency to address the COVID-19 outbreak. During the G20 Extraordinary Leaders' summit in 2020, Leaders committed to safeguarding our future by increasing spending on pandemic preparedness and closing existing gaps.
A task force of experts from Finance and Health Ministries was launched during the Italian Presidency, as recommended by Saudi Arabia, and with the support of the WHO, OECD, and other relevant international organizations.
