The Assistant Minister of Finance for Macro-Fiscal Policies and International Relations, the Saudi G20 Sherpa, Mr. Abdulmuhsen Alkhalaf, headed the Kingdom's delegation to the first G20 Sherpa meeting and the Joint Sherpa and Finance Track Deputies meeting under the Brazilian presidency.
The delegation also included the Deputy Governor of the Saudi Central Bank for Research and International Affairs, Dr. Fahad Alshathri, and the Deputy Minister of Finance for International Relations, Dr. Ryadh Alkhareif, and a number of officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), and the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA).
The first G20 Sherpa meeting included five sessions, focusing on the role of the G20 in today's world, the outline of the working methods for the G20 during the Brazilian Presidency, social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty, sustainable development and energy transitions. The Joint Sherpa and Finance Track meeting included three joint sessions which are: Social Inclusion and the Fight Against Hunger, Energy Transitions and Sustainable Development, and G20 Working Methods.
During the meeting, Mr. Abdulmuhsen Alkhalaf stated that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will work with the Brazilian G20 Presidency to enhance the role of G20 in addressing the most pressing global challenges of food and energy security, and hunger and poverty. Alkhalaf also reaffirmed the Kingdom's commitment to contributing to the G20 goals, and to supporting the Brazilian G20 Presidency to achieve important and effective outcomes, especially for the Global South.
In addition, Dr. Ryadh Alkhareif stated that Saudi Arabia urges the G20 to explore innovative financing mechanisms to fund social and developmental projects aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing food security, noting the importance of strengthening partnerships and sharing best practices across G20 countries, civil society, and the private sector.
The Brazilian Presidency comes under the motto: "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet", reflecting the priorities proposed by Brazil for its G20 Presidency, which includes social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty; energy transitions and the promotion of sustainable development in its economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
